Collection: Abstraction

Abstract art seeks to break away from traditional representations of physical objects. It explores the relationships of forms and colors, whereas Realism represents the world in recognizable images.

When creating in the style of Abstract, I have time to relax and reflect. There’s no attempt to represent an accurate picture of reality. I’m playing with the elements of art; line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space.

I also want to see what the medium can do. For example, how thick can I get the paint and will that impasto technique add to the composition? If I run a comb through those layers, will it strengthen the work?

I usually have to walk away from the artwork for a while and come back to it or start something else, so I won't add too much and take away from the design qualities I see.
